Brad's Mystery Ingredients
- Mark's sage advice
- My take is that it was just a combination of factors that
led to a "Perfect Commuting Storm" in N. Seattle:
- Timing of frontal band passage in mid afternoon, to set
up CZ in late afternoon and early evening.
- Temperatures at time of CZ precip a few degrees above freezing, to
produce wet slushy snow.
- Not too much precip so cars can make compact slush tracks on roads,
instead of full snow cover.
- Clear out of CZ around 9 pm, just in time to maximize overnight
radiational cooling and freezing of thin slush layers on roadways.
- Brad Colman's Response: So, what is the additional factor? I had already decided earlier this morning to go ahead and present this case at the Northwest Weather Workshop next month. So, to not spoil the punch line, I'll hold off from sharing it now. Hopefully you will be able to come to the workshop, when I will reveal my one additional factor (or will have had time to discount it; and, in that case, I will present a detailed review of Mark and Justin's thoughts). ;-)
